Herpes Simplex, or simply Herpes is a viral disease that leads to severe skin infections on various parts of the body. Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus. It can be broadly categorized into two different types: Oral Herpes and Genital Herpes. Oral Herpes is the condition when the infected part is the face, mouth or scalp, and sometimes eyes and hands also, while Genital Herpes is the infection over the private parts, the genitals, and on buttocks too. The symptoms of the oral herpes include small groups of blisters, also known as the Cold Sores or Fever Blisters that may cause a sore throat. Genital Herpes has minimal symptoms like blisters on the genitals or on the buttocks that may take form of ulcers, which usually take three or four weeks to heal. Herpes can lead to many severe health complications like tingling or shooting pains in the blisters, fever, muscle pain, swollen lymph, and headaches. The two types of the Herpes Simplex Virus are Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 and Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2). HSV-1 is the cause of the most of the cases of Oral Herpes while HSV-2 causes the major cases of the Genital Herpes. However it is not necessary in all cases as both the virus can cause both the types of infections. Herpes is an incurable disease. It means it can never be cured once it happens to someone. But it can be very well prevented by using certain precautions like use of condoms while having sex, and avoiding making sexual contact with the infected persons, or with unknowns.
